2022 Ram 1500 VS GMC Sierra Longmont CO
Ram 1500 vs GMC Sierra
Ram and GMC have been going back and forth on which truck is the best, and in recent years their rivalry has only deepened. Of course, their rivalry has been well documented as both of these massive pickup trucks come with sizable engines that allow them to tow and haul a lot of material, but that's not all they have to offer. Inside the cabin, the Ram and the GMC come with electric interiors with a ton of luxury items and the most tech in the class, which clearly set them apart from the competition. Both of these pickups will make tremendous additions to your driveway or garage, but which one has the upper hand? For the answer, continue reading our comparison below.
Ram 1500 Power Options
If you want a truck with a ton of power, then you have come to the right place with the Ram 1500! There are several engine options you can choose from, with the base engine being a 3.6-liter V6 that is capable of producing 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque and pairs with Ram's spectacular eTorque system, which will improve the fuel economy and the engine stop/start capability. Optional is the highly robust 5.7-liter V8 that pumps out 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. You can get this engine as standard on the higher trims of the Ram 1500. But wait. that's not all! The Ram 1500 also comes with a diesel engine, a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V6 that delivers up to 260 horses, and a whopping 480 lb-ft of torque. The final engine we will mention is available for the TRX trim, which is a supercharged V8 that pounds the pavement with 702 horsepower. Every engine comes paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and when fully equipped, the Ram 1500 can haul up to 12,750 pounds.
GMC Sierra Power Options
The GMC Sierra attempts to counter what Ram 1500 has with four engine options with an acceptable amount of power and torque. The first engine we will discuss is a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder that kicks out 310 horsepower and 348 lb-ft of torque. Most trims will come with the option of either a 5.3-liter V8 that pumps out 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque or a 6.2-liter V8 that delivers a solid 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. Like the Ram 1500, the GMC Sierra also comes with a diesel engine which is a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder kicking out 277 horses and 460 lb-ft of torque. Rear-wheel-drive comes standard for most trims, but four-wheel-drive is available, and all of the engines are available with an automatic transmission. As we stated, these engines are fine, but the Ram 1500 offers you more power.
Ram 1500 Features Options
Every trim level of the Ram 1500 is loaded with available features that will rival anything else in the class. The base trim is known as the Tradesman, which is solid as a rock and comes with 18-inch steel wheels and a few tech features, including a 5-inch touchscreen, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a push-button start. You also get trailer sway damping and a crystal clear six-speaker stereo. The Big Horn is one of the more luxurious and technologically advanced trims as it has 18-inch aluminum wheels and foglights. There are also many options, including an 8.4-inch or even 12-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. For off-roaders, you have the Rebel trim, which is loaded with all kinds of off-road equipment, such as an electronic locking rear axle and four skid plates. If you are a fan of luxury, the Ram has three trims dedicated to it with the Limited, Longhorn, and Laramie. These trims come with leather-trimmed bucket seats, 20-inch wheels, power mirrors, a leather-wrapped wood steering wheel, and a spray-in bed liner. There are also several safety options, such as forward collision warning and lane-keeping assist.
GMC Sierra Features Options
With the GMC Sierra, you will also be privy to some advanced features, but it will depend on what trim level you get. On the base trim, you will get things like air conditioning, a rearview camera, and a tilt-only steering wheel. Some tech is also available, such as a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The next trim is the SLE which has remote keyless entry and an upgraded 8-inch touchscreen, along with several options, including a bed-camera system that combines a cargo-box camera and provisions for two additional trailer-mounted cameras. Moving on to the Elevation, you will see a remote-locking tailgate, LED foglights, and two USB ports in the back seat. Higher trims are where you will get the most advanced equipment, such as a locking rear differential, a MultiPro configurable tailgate, and dual-zone climate control. Also coming standard is a trailer brake controller, heated-and-ventilated front seats, and heated second-row seats. If you want to go off-road, you will need to get the highest trim, the AT4, which has off-road items, including a 2-inch suspension lift, standard four-wheel drive with a two-speed transfer case, and skid plates.
