Colorado has some unbelievable terrain, thanks to the Rockies. There are hundreds of off-roading trails here, but the team at Prestige CDJR thought we would share some of our favorite places to rip it up. So whether you're a Wrangler owner with tons of experience or an outdoor enthusiast looking for a new sport, Colorado off-roading accommodates newbies and seasoned trail riders.
Gold Belt Scenic Byway
The Gold Belt Scenic Byway is located in southern Colorado. It takes you through the heart of the Colorado Gold Rush, passing through places like Cañon City, Florissant, Victor, and Cripple Creek. A lot of the road is accessible for all vehicles, but to get the whole experience, you'll want a 4x4 vehicle, like the Jeep Cherokee, for some parts of the 131-mile adventure. With tunnels, cliff shelves, abandoned mines, and even a haunted former railroad, the Gold Belt trail will be a trip you won't forget any time soon.
Wagon Wheel
This trip takes you through 250 miles of 4x4 trails. The Wagon Wheel's 13 main interconnecting trails are in the heart of Colorado's Rocky Mountains. If you're looking for an ultimate 4WD challenge, be sure you hit Fawn Creek to Dead Horse Loop. This trail offers steep, rocky rides. For those looking for a laidback adventure with plenty of views, Wagon Wheel's got tons of Instagram-worthy views. You can explore the trails for a quick day trip or weekend off-roading.
Lizard Head Pass
Lizard Head Pass offers unbeatable views of Uncompahgre National Forest and the San Juan mountain range. It is located on the border between Dolores and San Miguel Counties in Colorado and has been called "The Most Beautiful Drive in America. The pass got its name from a nearby peak that looks like the head of a lizard. This trip is perfect for beginners or anyone looking to meander through the great outdoors.
Alpine Loop
The Alpine Loop is a classic Colorado trail. Parts of the loop don't require an off-road rig. However, if you want to take full advantage of all 63 miles, you'll need a Trail Rated Jeep Wrangler to handle the terrain. For those looking for history, this trip offers ghost towns. Alpine Loop is a circular route that navigates through the high-elevation Cinnamon Pass and Engineer Pass in the San Juan Mountains. It connects the towns of Silverton and Ouray with Lake City, where it is generally considered to begin and end.

Anyone who has ever four-wheeled in Colorado has heard of the Grand Mesa Trails. But for those folks new to off-road, let us share this diamond in the rough with you. The Grand Mesa Trails is a collection of dozens of off-road trails that range from scenic and fun to technical and challenging. In Grand Mesa, you'll find lakes, forests, rock formations, steep climbs, and deep mud holes, which all combine to make a grand playground for you and your vehicle.
