WHICH EV IS RIGHT FOR ME?

Battery Electric

Power for Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) comes solely from an electric battery, with no gas engine and zero emissions. Most BEVs are capable of fast charging and L2 charging.

Plug-in Hybrid

Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs), are able to run on full electric power, but also have a gas engine that takes over when the battery runs out. PHEVs can be charged by plugging in to L2 Chargers.

Traditional Hybrid

Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) uses a gas-powered engine that works with an electric motor for better mileage. All energy for the battery is gained through regenerative braking.

Electric Vehicle FAQs

What Are the Different Types of Electric Vehicles?

There are 3 main types of electric vehicles (EVs) - Battery Electric (BEV), Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV), and Hybird (HEV). BEVs are powered entirely by electricity stored in their batteries. They have no internal combustion engine and produce no tailpipe emissions. PHEVs have both an electric motor and a gasoline engine. They can be charged via an external power source and typically offer a limited all-electric range before the gasoline engine kicks in. HEVs combine a gasoline engine with an electric motor but cannot be plugged in to charge. Instead, they generate electricity through regenerative braking and the gasoline engine.

How Do You Charge an Electric Vehicle?

BEV offer the quickest charging type - Level 3,aslo known as DC fast Charger. These chargers are found at public charging stations and can add 60 to 100 miles of range in about 20 minutes. They provide a rapid charge when you need to top up quickly. Level 2 Chargers are used in both public and at-home charging. They typically add about 10 to 60 miles of range per hour of charging, and are perfect for charging a BEV or PHEV overnight. Level 1 Chargers use a standard 120-volt outlet, but are the slowest type, and are most suitable for PHEVs.

How Long Does it Take to Charge an Electric Vehicle?

This depends on the vehicle and charger type. In general, if plugged into a Level 2 charger, it takes 8-10 hours to deliver a full charge on a BEV (like the Wagoneer S). For plug-in hybrid vehicles (Jeep 4xe, Hornet R/T), it takes 2.5 hours to deliver a full charge. If a BEV is plugged into a Level 3 charger, it takes 15-60 minutes to deliver a full charge

How Many Miles Does an Electric Range Last?

Electric range refers to how far your vehicle can travel on a single charge and can vary due to factors such as weather, driving conditions, driving style, tires, and more. The Jeep Wagoneer S has an estimated range of 300 miles. PHEV's on the other hand have both electric and gas power. The Grand Cherokee 4xe has a range of 470 miles with a full tank of gas and full battery charge and Wrangler 4xe has a range of 370 miles.

Are Electric Vehicles Reliable?

Many EV owners report high levels of satisfaction with the reliability of their vehicles. They are generally considered as reliable as gas powered cars. In fact, EVs have fewer moving parts compared to internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and regular maintenance is generally less intensive.

Are EVs Easier to Maintain?

Yes, electric vehicles (EVs) are generally easier to maintain compared to gas vehicles! Regular maintenance for EVs is generally limited to checking and replacing items like cabin air filters, windshield wipers, and tire rotation. The absence of an engine means fewer parts need regular inspection or replacement. EVs don’t require engine oil, so there are no oil changes needed. And, many EVs use regenerative braking to recover energy when slowing down. This system reduces the wear on traditional brake components, such as brake pads and rotors, extending their lifespan.

Are Electric Vehicles Safe?

Yes they are. EVs are built to be safe and are subject to the same rigorous safety standards and testing as traditional vehicles. The combination of structural safety, battery management, and advanced technology contributes to their overall safety profile. Many EVs come equipped with advanced safety features such as automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and collision warning systems, which enhance overall safety.

Is It Cheaper to Buy an Electric Car?

It can be. The reason for this is, while EVs might have a higher upfront price, there are multiple Federal and Local incentives, tax credits, and rebates that can push the overall price down. For example, the federal government offers tax credits of up to $7,500 for qualified EVs. Some automakers also provide discounts or special financing options for EVs, further lowering the effective purchase price.
